Introduction to the Laying Roots in Senior and Vocational High School Education in Information Technology/Computer Science Project
In light of transformation and upgrade in our country’s industries, and the needs arising from citizens’ lives making progress towards an intelligent-life mode high-quality networking society, and also understanding the fact that information and communication technology are an important enabling technology to realize the needs described above, our Ministry has been planning and implementing the “Laying Roots in Senior and Vocational High School Education in Information Science Project” under the “Information Communications Software Innovative Talent Elevation Project” since 2015.
This Project encourages the public and private universities to cooperate with 3 to 5 senior high or vocational high schools nearby, and assist collaborating senior high and vocational high students to
Nurture the ability to utilize information technology, and to conduct algorithmic thinking and computation.
Undertake advance training in information technology.
Receive counseling in participation in activities related to information science.
Service mechanisms for universities to promote high school students learning information science include: getting to know the information industry and information technology development activities, offering courses related to information science, assisting senior high and vocational high schools in developing their computer clubs, provide counseling in participating in computer science tests and competitions, and through the “algorithmic and computational thinking” activity and “program design” learning assessments, provide students with self-assessment in logical thinking and programming design skills. Students with promise can further deepen their skills by taking courses in information science (such as undertaking special topics on computer science).
