Introduction to the Doctorate Program

  • Features of Program

This Ph.D. program participates regularly and closely in academic exchanges with industry, research technology discussion, the lecture program for industry, and important large international conference participation in order to train elite who are equipped with international research capability, and to improve the practical course content and internship system, and to assist collaborating industries to elevate their core technologies and lay groundwork for global enterprise, in order to reach a mutually beneficial outcome.

 

 

  • Regulations on Undertaking course of Study:
  1. Application Mode: There are two modes to apply for this Ph.D. program. First is the Five-Years-One-Stream Mode: admitting Master’s students, and after he or she completes a year of planned courses, coming directly into this doctorate program. In the first two years of the doctorate program, he or she takes courses, and in the second two years participate in practical research and development at industry members or legal persons, with the overarching goal of completing a thesis in five years and attaining a doctorate degree.

 

Second is the Four-Year-Research-and development mode: admitting a doctorate student, he or she taking courses for the first two years, and then undertaking research and development at industry or legal persons with the overarching goal of completing a thesis, with four years allotted for the completion of the doctorate degree.

 

  1. Course and Credit Regulations: Not including thesis discussion and doctorate degree thesis research, 18 credits must be earned, and relevant conditions for graduation including qualification examination, planned research of thesis evaluation, mid-term evaluation, evaluation of contributions to industry, points earned for presentation of thesis, must all receive passing evaluation, and the thesis paper must be successfully defended orally in order to acquire the degree.

Two Letters of Recommendation. The persons making the recommendation must be a directing professor, or course professor, or the manager of the applicant at a workplace.

Autobiography and planned course of study, one piece each.

 

Academic Results

Original transcripts of the years at undergraduate institutes and graduate schools (including the Grade Point Average as well as class rankings, or separate ranking certification to be attached). Those who are unable to acquire ranking certification, please ask the schools you graduated from to provide a certification stating that it is not possible to acquire class rankings. (Students who have transferred schools must separately submit transcripts at the college level.

 

 

Other certification of academic ability.

 

Those who are applying based on equivalent academic qualification must attach record of academic history and other relevant certification and proof.

 

The following are data that may supplement an application and be useful to the evaluation process.

 

Graduate Thesis (Expected Graduates in the same year may provide the proposal for Graduate thesis instead)

 

Proof of English ability, such as Medium Level or above in the national English exams, TOEFL、CBT、IELTS、TOEIC、Cambridge Certificate、GMAT(or GRE)。

 

Other materials relevant to evaluation, such as 1-3 published full-length academic papers, special project reports, or proof and documentation of participation in various tests, competitions, and academic or talent, artistic activities.

 

 

 ※Key items to note when submitting data:

 

Items 1, 5 must be submitted in paper form during the period when registration is open.

 

Items 2, 3 must be filled out online.

Item 5 must be submitted in both paper and electronic form. 

 

 

2. The Doctorate Program at the College of Computer Science is actively cooperating with the Ministry of Education in implementing the “Industry-Academia Doctorate-Level Research Talent Fostering Plan”, with the participating students undertaking 2 years of courses and 2 years of internship at a firm. Selected doctorate students who meet the evaluation requirements will each receive a NT$200,000 subsidy from the Ministry of Education (with selection based on the ranking of overall qualities), as well as each receive a NT$100,000 subsidy from collaborating firms.

 

3. Selected students must submit midterm and term completion reports on their experiences, as well as present achievements garnered during the program, or participate in seminars to share their experience with the training program, in accordance with requirements by the Ministry of Education.

 

4. Selected students should participate in the project full-time. Participating students who fail to complete the program due to temporary withdrawal, expulsion, failure to pass academic assessments or evaluation by the firm, or those who engage in full-time work during the official period of the academic term (including winter and summer vacations) shall have their scholarships terminated immediately, and shall be denied the chance to apply for more scholarships or tuition assistance even after they restart their academic progress or participate in other projects.
