COLLEGE OF COMPUTER SCIENCE NYCU
Institute of Network Engineering
Global internet technology is rapidly developing. Computers, cellphones, and smart household appliances are being connected tightly via cable and wireless network, and network and mobile communications applications have come into daily life. The Internet, and related industries including mobile and wireless communications, e-commerce, and the Internet of Things (IoT) have blossomed.
In order to meet the desperate need for talent for relevant software and hardware whom the industry needs for research and development, NCTU’s College of Computer Science established the Institute of Network Engineering, which provides an excellent education and research environment that promotes the integration of network, communications, and computers, inducing the research of network applications, accelerating industry development, making contributions to national network education and research, and assisting industry in improving industry technology and techniques.
Our institute is the first network engineering research institute amongst state-established national universities. We approach research and development in the field of network communications via computer technology, and the energy devoted to research in the fields of mobile communications, wireless networks, optic fiber networks, and network safety easily can be counted as top in the country. Our institute’s professors and professors in the school’s other institutes have been organized into nine research groups. Our institute is particularly focused on the impact that research is having. Many of our papers have been cited more than 100 times internationally, and that ranks first amongst the country’s computer science and electrical engineering institutes and departments. Many professors serve as editors at IEEE periodicals, and many are agenda committee members at international conferences, and winners of best papers. Three professors received the National Council of Science outstanding research award, and there are 6 IEEE Fellows.
Important recent and historical research include:
Faculty of our institute participate in many large research projects, including the R&D of next generation Internet (Including the Science Vanguard Research Program and Post-Excellence Project), Five Years 500 Million Project, NTP– National Science & Technology Program for Telecommunications, National Broadband Experimental Network, next-generation wireless network, Ministry of Economic Affairs Academia
Technology Development Program, Deep Plowing Project, University-Industry Collaboration Projects (Large Alliance).
Further, joint research centers have been established with other research units, including the ITRC-NCTU (Industrial Technology Research Institute Joint Research Center, ITRC-NCTU Network Benchmarking Lab, III (Institute for Information Industry)-NCTU Joint Research Center, all of which are collaborations with the only counterpart or the counterpart with the best output record. Our institute also proactively collaborates with members of the industry, with current research projects partnering with Cisco, Intel, Zyxel, and MediaTek.
